Frequently Asked Questions

When can I see the photos from my game?

Shooting a live sport match typically involves taking over 1,000 photos, then selecting and editing the 20-50 best. We try to be as diligent as possible and make them available the same day, but it may occasionally take an extra day or two. Whenever we add a new gallery we also post on Instagram (@photo.smf) so follow us there to be the first to know.

Why is the gallery I want to see password protected?

We protect with a password all galleries involving underage teams, or when requested by the team being photographed. If you think you should have access, talk to your coach or club.

Can I use your photos on Instagram?

Absolutely! All images on this website are licensed under a CC BY-NC 4.0 license: you are free to use and modify them for non commercial purpose, but are required to give appropriate credit. A link to this website (www.smfphoto.ch) or our Instagram account (@photo.smf) is the preferred way of fulfilling this requirement.

I don't like your logo/signature, can I crop it from the photos?

Of course: under the license terms you are free to modify the photos as you see fit. If you have a good reason to want a photo without our classy, elegant logo, tell us and we may even do it for you. Just remember the giving credit clause: the signature is there to help those too lazy to bother with attribution keep the terms of the license.

I don't want to give you credit, what are you going to do about it?

Most likely nothing. But it's a nice courtesy that we are hoping people will honour.

Who gave you permission to put my photo on your website!?

Sorry about that: we only shoot public games/shows, with the agreement of the organizer or one of the teams involved. But you are entitled by Swiss law (and common decency) to your own image and privacy:  contact us and we will have the offending images removed ASAP.

Why are faces pixelated at 400% zoom?

To keep storage requirements reasonable, images available for download are typically rendered at 3072x2048 pixels, a.k.a. 6MP. This is more than enough for Instagram or general web use, and even for high quality prints up to 25x17 cm.

But I need more pixels!

If you have a special project, e.g. a large format print, and need a special image file, we keep original, uncropped, full resolution RAW files of all photos. Tell us what you want to do and we will try to accommodate your needs.

Your photos are great, can we get you to shoot one of our games?

We prefer to have an ongoing relationship with a club, where we get to know the coaches and players we are photographing, rather than a one-of shooting with strangers. But we have a soft spot for providing the high quality photos experience to small teams that would normally not have access to such perks. So contact us and tell us about your team or tournament, and we may come to an agreement.

Your photos are great, can we get you to shoot one of our unicycle hockey games?

We started photographing basketball and synchronized skating because those were the sports that our children played, but we are always looking to try a new sport out (say hi, ultimate), so tell us about yours. We haven't given unicycle hockey much thought, but volleyball, handball, table tennis and martial arts are high on our list of sports to shoot someday.

You photos are great, can we get you to shoot our tournament in Ulan Bator?

Probably not... We are based in Switzerland, near Zürich, in the lovely town of Horgen, and have full time day jobs to tend to. So evening or weekend gigs in and around Zürich is what we do for the most part.
